Abstract

Introduction Prehabilitation (prehab) is an important aspect of cancer care to optimise patients prior to anti-cancer treatments. Our lung cancer prehab service offers baseline assessment followed by personalised exercise prescription and lifestyle advice. Outcome measures include: 6-minute walk test (6MWT), one-minute-sit-to-stand-test (STS), anxiety/depression score (PHQ-4) and quality of life score (EQ-5D-5L). Aim To review the impact of our lung cancer prehab service. Methods Retrospective review of enrolled prehab patients undergoing lung cancer resection from October 2022 to August 2024. Results 110 patients completed baseline and post-prehab outcome measurements. Mean age 69 years (range 46-86), 45% male. We reviewed improvements in outcomes using a paired t-test. [Formula presented] [Formula presented] [Formula presented] 17% (19/110) improved their PS post-prehab (see table below). PS remained stable in all other patients. [Formula presented] Median length of hospital stay was 3 days (IQR 2-7). Median Clavien-Dindo Score for post-operative complications was Class 1 (minor). Conclusion In a large lung cancer prehab service, we have demonstrated improvement in physiological, psychological, and quality of life measures, with short post-operative length of stay and low complication rate.
