Abstract

Male pattern hair loss, Alopecia, Recombinant growth factors, Microneedling Objectives: This prospective case series aimed to assess participant satisfaction, utilizing a validated patient-reported outcome measure, with the use of recombinant topical growth factors combined with microneedling for treating male pattern hair loss. Material(s) and Method(s): Participants undergoing treatment for androgenic alopecia (AGA) received topical recombinant human growth factor solution (SkinGenuity hair restorative solution) along with in-clinic and home-based microneedling over 16 weeks. Clinic visits occurred every 4 weeks, with microneedling performed using a SkinPen and application of the growth factor solution. Participants also conducted home microneedling three times weekly. Final assessments included digital hair microscopy, HAIR-Q questionnaire completion, and photography. Result(s): Data analysis involved assessing changes in hair loss using the hair pull test, dermoscopy photomicrographs, macroscopic photographs, and satisfaction scales. Adverse effects were also noted. Quantitative variables were summarized descriptively, and differences from baseline to 16-week follow-up were calculated. Statistical analysis, including ANOVA and t-tests, compared baseline parameters and outcomes within participants. Conclusion(s): This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of recombinant growth factor solution combined with microneedling for treating male pattern hair loss. Findings provided valuable insights into the potential of this novel approach in hair restoration. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of regenerative treatments in addressing AGA and emphasized the need to educate neurosurgeons about this innovative therapeutic strategy to facilitate early referrals and prevent complications. Throughout the study, participants reported varying levels of satisfaction with the treatment, with many experiencing improvements in hair density and quality. Adverse effects were minimal, indicating the safety profile of the intervention. Statistical analysis revealed significant improvements in hair loss parameters from baseline to the 16-week follow-up, supporting the effectiveness of the combined treatment approach. Overall, the findings underscored the potential of recombinant growth factors combined with microneedling as a promising therapeutic option for male pattern hair loss. Moreover, the study highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge dissemination among healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.Copyright © 2025
