Abstract
The Southwark AWM Service for Men aged 45+ is a co-designed weight management service that is insight based and driven by the needs of the target population. It took a community approach to designing, delivering and promoting the service and the aim was to increase access to weight management support for those most at risk, such as participants living in areas of high deprivation and those with a high cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. We also aimed to increase access to weight management support for men, targeting specifically men from an Ethnic Minorities, R&M Occupations and Shift Workers.
We've increased our understanding on actionable strategies to engaging men in health improvement, addressing their unique health needs and behaviours, and will be offering practical strategies for designing and delivering health services tailored to male audiences.
We've identified the barriers preventing men from engaging in weight loss interventions and developed effective engagement strategies, including language, tone, and delivery methods, to successfully connect with male audiences.
We've developed our understanding of how to co-design and implement health initiatives that resonate with men and will discuss insights to improve existing health services and create new interventions that foster lasting behaviour change in middle-aged men from ethnic minorities.
