An Asymptomatic Giant Endometrioma Presented as Lower Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis with Early Pregnancy: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Abstract

Endometriosis is benign and long-term condition where endometrial-like glands and stroma are grown outside the uterine cavity. It affects 6–10% of reproductive-aged women. Ovarian endometrioma are the ovarian cyst also known as chocolate cyst, which develops due to endometrial tissue being active in the ovary leading to cyst filled with blood. Ovarian endometrioma affects 17–44% of women with endometriosis. Ovarian endometrioma is common and usually symptomatic, but it rarely exceeds 6 cm in diameter. Ovarian endometrioma exceeding 10 cm in dimension, often referred to as giant endometrioma, is rare and can pose a diagnostic dilemma to clinician due to atypical presentation. It usually causes pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, menorrhagia and infertility; however, 20–25% of patients are asymptomatic. Endometriosis in pregnancy is associated with spontaneous miscarriage, preterm birth, SGA fetuses, placenta previa, PPH and cesarean birth .
