88 A case report of chronic osteomyelitis - A modified reconstruction technique with Platelet-Rich-Fibrin (PRF) aggregates

Abstract

Introduction/aims: Osteomyelitis of the jaw can be caused by trauma, dentoalveolar infection or rarely idiopathic. Alcoholism, immunosuppression, autoimmune diseases, and lack of access to healthcare can predispose to the development of osteomyelitis. Treatment can include invasive surgical bone debridement and prolonged antibiotic therapy. PRF has been studied for its benefits with regards to enhancing soft and hard tissue healing due to the introduction of fibrin and growth factors. Acknowledging this adjuvant therapy in Maxillofacial Surgery may result in long term modification in Standard Operative Procedures.
