Trauma Care in Oman: A Narrative Review on Current Practices, Challenges, and Developmental Priorities

Abstract

Having an effective trauma system is essential for reducing avoidable morbidity and mortality. The Sultanate of Oman, like many countries, faces a significant burden of trauma cases presenting either directly to emergency centers, private healthcare facilities, or through emergency services seeking urgent care. Despite major advances in infrastructure and healthcare over recent decades, trauma remains a major challenge, particularly due to variation in trauma facilities and healthcare access across different regions of the country. This narrative review examines the current state of trauma care in Oman and aims to identify both strengths and challenges within the healthcare system related to trauma management. Addressing these challenges, and ensuring they are incorporated into Oman's Vision 2040 agenda, is vital to reducing preventable morbidity and mortality and improving the overall effectiveness of the national trauma care system.
